ABOUT SHIFT

the 411

SHIFT Performing Arts Society is an exciting, new and innovative company creating and presenting the arts like you've never seen. Based in Port Moody, a 30-minute drive from Vancouver, SHIFT produces a series of theatre and multi-disciplinary shows including the signature SHIFT One-Act Theatre Festival.

Incorporated in January 2008, SHIFT is the brainchild project of Nick Sartore, Artistic Managing Director. Along with support from the rest of the founding board and the local theatre community, SHIFT was born from the passion and need to create more live performance work in the Tri-Cities. We quickly found a home for the SHIFT One-Act Theatre Festival at the Inlet Theatre, with help and support from Elizabeth Keurvorst, who was Cultural Services Manager at the time, and Devin Jain, current Cultural Services Manager. With the support from the City of Port Moody, the first SHIFT One-Act Theatre Festival was presented at the Inlet Theatre in June '08. The festival, which is the first of its kind in the community, featured nine shows over three nights. This legacy project is the base of the SHIFT season, launching in our 2009 year.

OUR VISION

shift mantra

SHIFTing your focus, attention and expectations through our creation of innovative, exciting and challenging live performance art.

We're focused on creating high-quality art in the community, with a focus on bringing our audience something they haven't seen before. Many people in Port Moody and the surrounding Tri-Cities area often think they have to travel to Vancouver to get what's "new" and "fresh" in the art community -- that's no longer true. We are devoted to creating exciting and innovative opportunities right in our own backyard.

THE MANIFESTO

artistic mandate

SHIFT believes in the power of art. We believe that performing arts are relevant, nourishing, entertaining and fundamentally valuable to society. SHIFT is devoted to the creation of richly imagined worlds, characters that have soul and substance, stories that resonate, and ideas that stimulate.

SHIFT aspires to making art that teaches people how to be more human, and to always telling the truth.
