Mackin House has been restored and is now a house museum operated by the Coquitlam Heritage Society. It offers visitors the chance to step back in time. From the architectural details like its large veranda to the array of artifacts displayed inside, the house is a model of life in the Edwardian era.
Volunteer Opportunity Description:
Are you passionate about heritage, culture and history? Are you looking for the opportunity to engage with and explore our community history? Mackin house museum is currently seeking volunteers to help with the curatorial projects. The Curatorial Assistant will help with the day-to-day exhibit and collections work outlined by the Heritage Manager. This includes but is not limited to scanning of archival documents, accessioning artifacts, archival cleaning, installation and take-down of exhibits, and photography of artifacts. It is preferable that the volunteer be available on weekdays during the day.
The ideal volunteer for this role will be a motivated self-starter with problem solving skills, a positive attitude and the ability to take direction well. A background in museum studies, archival studies, archaeology, curatorial studies or anthropology would be an asset. The volunteer will be effective in both written and oral communication. Previous collections work is an asset although specific training will be provided.
• Archival cleaning of artifacts
• Assist the Heritage Manager with updating artifact records in past perfect database including physical description, context and condition.
• Assist in the organization and cleaning of collections areas.
• Help to catalogue newly acquired artifacts.
• Photography of artifacts in the permanent collection
