Port Moody Arts Centre
The Port Moody Arts Centre Society (PMAC) is a charitable society, supporting artistic development through gallery exhibitions, events, and instructional programs.
The Arts Centre offers a variety of classes in visual arts, ceramics, and music for all ages and we operate an art gallery exhibiting local, national, and international artists. We also support a gift shop operated by the Blackberry Artists – a Port Moody-based artist’s cooperative.
We are seeking talented, art loving individuals who want to get involved in the community.
Birthday Party Assistant
As a Birthday Party Volunteer, you will assist the Instructor in the set-up and clean-up of the space plus provide assistance to the children participating as required.
We offer camps throughout the schoolyear on SD43 Professional Days, plus during the 2 weeks of Spring Break and the 9 weeks of Summer Break. As a Camp Assistant, you will greet the participants as they arrive, offer assistance to the instructor and participants as required, lead games during lunch hour, assist with clean-up and supervise children during after-camp hours.
Volunteers assist the Gallery Manager with setting up and taking down the exhibition approximately every six to eight weeks according to the schedule, which is available upon request. Setting up and taking down usually takes place during the day on weekdays and can take between two to four hours over several days, depending on the size of the exhibition. You must be able to lift at least 40lbs as this can be quite strenuous work. Volunteers can expect to fill holes, sand, paint, measure and use small power tools. Training can be provided if no prior experience in gallery installations.
Gallery Opening Receptions
Gallery Openings are fun and exciting evenings where the public comes to view the new exhibits for the first time, often in the presence of the exhibiting artists. Those scheduled for Gallery Openings Receptions can expect to greet visitors at the door, plate and set out food and beverages, and tend to the bar. Those assisting with food plating will require Food Safe, and those tending the bar will require Serving It Right.
Special Events and Fundraisers
Reception and event volunteers help to set-up, serve food and drinks and greet guests. Volunteers must be able to work independently and with limited supervision. Food Safe and Serving It Right are assets but not required. We have a variety of events coming up throughout the year including Open Houses, Culture Days, Girls Night Out, and Youth Arts Festival.
Outreach volunteers help man PMAC promotional booths during special community events. They help with set-up and take down, and inform the public about the Arts Centre.
We require all of our volunteers to be over the age of 14. Additional bonuses are if you are able to drive, if you have your serving it right, foodsafe, or teach art.
