Diwali Fest Volunteer

Diwali Fest

Sept. 23, 2016

Organization Description:

Produced by the Diwali Celebration Society, Diwali Fest is an annual South Asian arts and culture festival that celebrates the universal light that exists in everyone. Diwali Fest originated in 2004 and
has since evolved to become one of the largest Diwali-themed events in the Lower Mainland and a destination event on the city’s cultural calendar. It strives to promote unity in diversity and showcases the best and brightest South Asian talent, exhibiting artistic innovation through a myriad of forms while engaging a wide community in an active and inclusive role. Each year’s festival engages dozens of artists in events across the city, the majority of which are open and free to the general public, by donation, or at affordably priced tickets. Diwali Fest would not be possible without the generous support of its board members: Kriti Dewan, Gurdeep Birdi, Chirag Vesuvala, Sahil Bhrany, Soutomi Kundu, and Gurpreet Sian.

Volunteer Opportunity Description:

Diwali Fest is currently seeking community-minded volunteers to support our upcoming 13th annual South Asian arts & culture festival, with several events including pre-events taking place form October 1st to November 30th, 2016.

For more information and to register to be a volunteer please visit our volunteer page at:

We have many exciting positions to be filled.
We require volunteers to set up events, as well as to fill event assistance and audience services during the event. Some of the events are creative (like helping with diya painting and rangoli creations), some require manual labor (like helping us to set up tables and chairs), and some require great people skills (like greeters, collecting donations, information desk).

All of the positions require a great sense of community spirit and willingness to have fun.

At the event orientation you will receive your festival information package and Diwali Fest 2016 T-shirt for event day. We’ll introduce you to your position managers, meet with your co-workers, overview of the festival and events, and discuss your position(s) in greater detail. We’ll also have some snacks to share!

Each shift will last approximately 4 – 6 hours. All volunteers receive snacks and drinks on all day events, a letter of appreciation, and a pre-event orientation. If you sign up for a double shift (8 hours) a meal will be provided.

After the festival is over, we will have a Volunteer Appreciation Party!
