Organization Description: 

Surrey Art Gallery engages the public in an ongoing dialogue about issues and ideas that affect our lives, as expressed through contemporary art, and to provide opportunities to interact with artists and the artistic process. We accomplish this through exhibitions, programs, and publications of contemporary art. Surrey Art Gallery also acquires, manages, researches, preserves, and exhibits work from its contemporary art collection. The Gallery focuses on contemporary art made since 1975.

Volunteer Opportunity Description: 

Discover contemporary art and ideas, develop public speaking skills, and gain leadership experience. Join our Youth Docents and enhance exhibitions through activities that are equal parts fun and educational. Opportunities to inspire and be inspired abound.

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead discussions and hands-on activities for Gallery visitors
  • Engage in preparing and planning for education programs 
  • Research and study exhibitions of contemporary art
  • Participate in ongoing training, gallery lectures and program evaluation

Qualifications: 

  • Have a passion for contemporary art
  • Are responsible and reliable
  • Enjoy working within a diverse community
  • Possess good communication skills
  • Enjoy contributing to a team
  • Are between the ages of 15 - 24
