Eastside Culture Crawl Society
Description: 

The Eastside Culture Crawl Society is a not-for-profit arts organization dedicated to the promotion of artists and their work. The society is best known for producing the annual Eastside Culture Crawl, a 3-day November event that involves artists who operate their studios in Vancouver's Eastside in an area bounded by Main St., Terminal/1st Ave., Victoria Drive, and the Waterfront.

The Eastside Culture Crawl officially began in 1996 with 45 artists in 3 Strathcona area studio buildings and was attended by a few hundred people. Since that time the event has grown to include over 350 artists, craftspeople and designers attracting an audience of more than 10,000.

The organization itself has evolved to represent the heart of the East Van creative community, and seen city-wide as voice of studio artists.

Responsibilities: 

In the midst of the 5 year Strategic Plan (2010-2015), the ECCS's Chair/President role is critical in supporting the direction of the society in the next few years of growth and transition. The ECCS is currently embarking into the realm of property management/ownership with feasibility studies and research projects on the go, the ideal candidates will have some experience in the guidance of large projects and connections in the community. Specific roles include:

Duties Include:
Provides vision and leadership to the ECCS
Represents the ECCS at events and forums
Chairs the Board, sets agendas and participates in succession planning and recruitment
Chairs the Executive Committee, attends Finance Committee meetings
Oversees the work of the Executive Director and his annual performance review
Supports the general health of the Society

Time Commitment: 20-25 hrs/month total (seasonal)
- 2 year term
- correspondence/emails: 1-2 hrs/week
- Executive Director communications (general Society health): 1-2 hrs/week
- 3 meetings/month (Board, Executive, Finance): 9 hrs/month

Qualifications: 

The ideal candidate has:

- experience at the Board level with the ECCS, or similar Not-For-Profit arts organization

- experience/knowledge with large scale development projects, specifically related to real estate and/or infrastructure builidng

- experience/knowledge of large scale fundraising projects
