Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Arts Leading The Way

from 25.00

WHEN: Wednesday, February 21, 2018; 9:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
WHERE: 100-938 Howe St., Vancouver

The cultural landscape of BC is beautifully diverse, but are arts organizations truly aware of their potential to engage and serve diverse communities? How do the arts in BC include or exclude persons of varying identities? What can we do to ensure that diverse voices and perspectives are authentically included and expressed in the arts? How can we work within our sector to become leaders on the road to justice and equality?

In this 2.5-hour workshop, we will introduce concepts of culture, diversity, equity, inclusion, identity and intersectionality. Through activities and conversation, participants will be invited to explore their own cultural identities, begin to deconstruct their cultural biases and critically examine systemic barriers to gain a more empathetic understanding of issues faced by people of underrepresented identities. With the understanding that the arts have a profound ability to impact the health and evolution of our collective communities, we will discuss strategies to implement culturally-competent and authentically inclusive practices within the arts sector.

If you are unable to attend this workshop in person, watch and submit your questions from where you are with live online access! To join us digitally, select the Livestream option from the form below. You will be emailed a link to the video.
