Call for Artists Description: 

Place des Arts is seeking 12 theatre artists ages 15-18 (must be 15 by July 3, 2018) for its 2018 Summer Teen Theatre Troupe. The troupe, under director Melissa Oei, will rehearse and perform an original adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet at Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park Plaza this summer.

The program will run Tuesday, July 24 – Sunday, July 29, 2018

As this is a short-term intensive program, all actors must be available for all rehearsals. Exact rehearsal schedule and other information will be released at the audition.

Audition Information:
When: Sunday, April 22, between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm
Where: Place des Arts (1120 Brunette Avenue, Coquitlam)
Audition Prep: 
A 1-minute Shakespeare monologue of your choice;
and either a 1-minute song (either singing and/or playing an instrument);
or a movement piece (with or without music).

Honourarium: All performers will receive a $500 honourarium upon completion of the show

We will be looking for actors with a strong commitment to the work and a willingness to have fun! 

Please wear comfortable clothes you can move in, and bring a bottle of water.

Melissa is a theatre actor and instructor for young people. She trained at Studio 58, Langara Film Arts, Capilano University, the Banff Centre and Canada’s National Voice Intensive. She has performed with many theatre companies including Arts Club, Citadel Theatre, Theatre North West, TUTS, United Players, Kaleidoscope Theatre and Caravan Stage Company. For Carousel Theatre for Young People (CTYP), she has appeared in Love You Forever, Aesop’s Fables, Arthur Boy King, and Seussical. She loves assisting and teaching with CTYP’s drama school classes.
