Cinevolution Media Arts Society

Apr. 15, 2019

Call for Artists Description:

We are so excited to be launching the Call for Artists for Digital Carnival 2019!

Digital Carnival has been making media art accessible by bringing cutting-edge projects by diverse artists into public spaces since 2012. We welcome the full range of technology engaged projects that respond to the theme of FIRE.

DC2019 is the final installment in a 4-year exploration of elemental themes co-produced and curated by Cinevolution with Guest Curator Wynne Palmer.

We are grateful to the BC Arts Council, the City of Richmond, and Richmond World Festival for their generous support.

More About Digital Carnival

Since its inception in 2012, Digital Carnival has been a platform for promoting public awareness and appreciation of media arts, supporting the development of BC’s emerging media artists, fostering diversity within BC’s media arts community, and creating opportunities for creative dialogue and exchange within the media arts community in BC and beyond.

One of the largest community-engaged media arts festivals in the Lower Mainland, Digital Carnival showcases work from a wide variety of digital media including but not limited to, film and video, video mapping, integrated media installations, interactive art, generative art, music and sound art, software and computer gaming, dance and performance art, gif and meme art, and community-engaged art. Through this annual event, we seek to nurture the convergence of media art with public art through accessible programming (e.g. offering free programs in accessible, public spaces, creating multilingual marketing collateral, and providing multilingual tour guides to assist the public in navigating the art work), as well as partnerships with art collectives, artist run centres, and educational institutions.

About Cinevolution

Founded in 2007, Cinevolution is a grassroots, women- and migrant-driven non-profit arts organization based in Richmond BC. Cinevolution is committed to fostering intercultural dialogue and critical engagement through film and media arts. For a decade, Cinevolution has been committed to bringing cutting edge media art into marginalized communities. Sitting at the nexus of art, academia and community, Cinevolution seeks to decentralize art while connecting people across cultural, political, geographic and linguistic boundaries in order to foster media literacy, stimulate critical discourse, and cultivate creativity.
