CALL FOR ARTISTS:
Theme: Daydreaming explores the dialogue between imagination, memory, and escapism. This exhibition underlines the importance of daydreaming as part of the creative process. The ACT Art Gallery is looking for original artwork inspired by personal experiences of daydreaming or artists who use daydreaming as an artistic practice. A wide range of interpretations of the theme are welcomed.
Prompts to help inspire you:
• Where does your mind go when you daydream?
• Is there a physical place that you visit regularly to let your mind wander?
• Is daydreaming a part of your artistic process?
• When you daydream, do you think about the past, present, or future?
• What kinds of fantastic things do you dream up?
• Do you daydream about goals or a different future?
Suggested topics to explore:
• Imagination
• Reality
• Fantasy
• Memory
• Manifestation
• Hope
• Dreams
• Portals + Realms
• Thoughts + Sensations
• Echoes, whispers, shadows
Who can apply:
• Artists of any age, background, and experience level
• B.C. residents
Submission Guidelines:
• Artists may submit a maximum of 3 artworks
• No size limitations for artworks
• Accepted art mediums include but are not limited to: painting, drawing, illustration, photography, ceramics, woodwork, textiles, metalwork, sculpture, mixed media
• Artworks must be ready to hang or display
• Artists are responsible for the dropoff and pickup of their artworks
HOW TO APPLY:
Please send the following information to ACTExhibitions@MapleRidge.ca with the subject line “Daydreaming”:
• Mailing address and phone number
• Artist bio
• Artist statement (1-2 paragraph description of your submitted artwork and how it relates to the theme of Daydreaming)
• A list of submitted artworks with identifying information (title, medium, dimensions, and sale price (optional))
• Images of each artwork
An adjudication panel will assess artworks by the following criteria:
• Application includes all the information listed in the How to Apply section
• Artwork addresses the theme of Daydreaming
• Artwork is an original creation of the artist
FEES/COMPENSATION
Artists can choose whether to make their artwork available for sale. The ACT Art Gallery retains 30% of the sale price of artworks with 70% to the artist.
