The Max Wyman Award For Cultural Commentary

This new biennial award celebrates critical writing and commentary on the visual, performing, and literary arts in British Columbia.

Instituted by community leader and philanthropist Dr. Yosef Wosk, the Max Wyman Award for Cultural Commentary is named in honour of Max Wyman, one of Canada’s foremost critics and cultural commentators.

Max's career will be celebrated at an evening of words, dance and music and the presentation of a lifetime achievement award in Vancouver on April 18, 2017.

The Max Wyman Award for Cultural Commentary is produced by The Dance Centre in partnership with the BC Alliance for Arts + Culture.

Full Award guidelines, including a 2019 call for submissions, will be posted here in the coming months.

Mayor's Arts Awards

The City of Vancouver's annual Mayor’s Arts Awards recognize established and emerging artists in a wide array of disciplines that make up our creative sector – from literary and culinary arts to visual and performing arts, as well as five unique awards for contributions to the City of Vancouver.

Artist Honourees, Emerging Artists, and Lifetime Achievement recipients receive a cash award. Special non-cash awards are made for contributions through Volunteerism, Philanthropy, Business Support, and the Arts Board Member of the Year.

Each Artist Honouree is asked to select an Emerging Artist in their discipline who represents the promise of the next generation.

The Mayor's Arts Awards juries are convened by the Alliance. Honourees in the arts categories are chosen each year by a jury of peers for having made a significant contribution to their respective disciplines and for showing leadership and support for Vancouver’s cultural community over the course of their careers. Honourees for Business Support, Philanthropy, and Volunteerism are chosen by juries consisting of business and cultural community members active in those fields.

The Arts Board Member of the Year Award is an initiative of the Society to Bridge Arts and Community. The Society's board of directors establishes juries who select this category's honouree, as well as the Lifetime Achievement Award honouree.

The selection in each award category is made from nominations by individual jurors and solicited from the community at large.

The Mayor's Arts Awards are presented by the City of Vancouver in partnership with the Alliance. (Partner logo CoV below)
