Organization Description:

The Vernon Public Art Gallery is a not-for-profit, charitable organization committed to fostering an appreciation of the visual arts for all members of the community. The Vernon Public Art Gallery is an important part of cultural tourism in the region, and is a centre for educational and cultural activities in the Okanagan.

VPAG presents exhibitions featuring emerging, mid-career and established artists working in a variety of media, including paintings, sculpture, video and installation art. VPAG is the largest public gallery in the North Okanagan and offers approximately 20 exhibitions per year for public viewing. The Gallery also offers an Art Rental Program and Gallery Shop. VPAG delivers programming and events for the community including artist talks, film screenings, workshops, and signature events


Job Description:

Start date: May 22, 2018
End date: August 31, 2018

The Vernon Public Art Gallery is looking for two highly motivated individuals for our Gallery Youth Ambassador positions.

*Must meet the requirements as set out by Young Canada Works to be eligible.


The Gallery Youth Ambassador position will be responsible for the following:
· updating and maintaining select social networking sites in order to build the Gallery’s interactive online presence, with a focus on engaging youth/young adults
· take a lead role in the planning and implementation of summer activities including the Gallery’s summer wrap-up event Riot on the Roof
· providing support to the Gallery operations as required is also expected


Education: some post-secondary Experience: working with the public, knowledge of Arts and Culture an asset, event planning

Skills: takes initiative, excellent interpersonal/communication skills; excellent writing and editing skills; ability to work independently or as a team member; planning, organization and time management skills; research skills, cash management. Fundraising and event planning experience is an asset.

Business Equipment usage: Proficient in the use of computers, Microsoft Office and internet applications; calculator; copy/fax machine
