The Capilano Review is looking to hire a dynamic Managing Editor, beginning June 15th, 2018 for a one-year maternity leave coverage.
The Managing Editor role at The Capilano Review Contemporary Arts Society includes but is not limited to:
-Managing subscription initiatives and renewals of individual and institutional subscribers
-Doing monthly payroll, providing invoices when necessary and paying all TCR bills including fees to contributors, distributors, monthly CRA remittance etc.
-Soliciting ads for the print magazine and the website.
-Working with TCR’s Editor to plan and execute marketing, advertising, and distribution initiatives.
-Making bank deposits, monitoring expenses, looking for fundraising opportunities.
-Facilitating the communication between editor, designer, printer around the publication schedule for three annual print issues
-Communicating with contributors, obtaining permissions (when necessary) and contracts for each print issue.
-Communicating with TCR’s designer about back of issue material such as ad copy and ‘Friends of TCR’ for each print issue.
-Working with TCR’s editor to manage web content including featured artists and writers for each issue.
-Updating and maintaining TCR’s website, Submittable site and social media sites.
-Facilitating TCR events (launches, bookfairs and other readings), including organization, promotion, set-up and take down of venue
-Facilitating TCR Writer-in-residence visits, including advertisements, venue prep, arranging individual sessions with writers, etc.
-Providing mentorship to TCR interns along with the editor.
-Maintaining bookkeeping records on a regular basis and arranging for quarterly reviews with our accountant.
-Providing financial information, including budgets and ancillary materials for grant applications.
-Presenting the annual budget at the AGM of the Capilano Review Contemporary Arts Society along with budget updates where necessary.
Previous editorial, administrative, or management experience or experience working in the literary/arts sector
Bookkeeping knowledge or willingness to learn basic QuickBooks data entry
Excellent communication skills--including promotional, social media and newsletter communication
Confident in Microsoft Suite including Word and Excel (knowledge of Adobe Creative Products an asset)
Familiarity with Mailchimp, Submittable and Wordpress platforms an asset
Ability to work independently as well as with a team
