Organization Description: 

The Sunset Theatre Society’s Mandate is to: nurture, develop, produce and present professional theatre in the remote and supportive environment surrounded by the Cariboo Mountains in Wells BC – year round population 250. Dedicated to the development of new Canadian theatre through our signature Exploration Series, the Sunset Theatre also hosts a Presentation Series, Concert Series, Workshops, the Annual Moonrise Film Festival of independent films and variety of community events. A thriving tourist trade at near-by Barkerville Historic Park and the remote location make the Sunset Theatre a unique and picturesque destination theatre, perfect for exploring and creating new work. Over the past year the Sunset Theatre has established an emphasis on Indigenous and First Nations Theatre.


Job Description: 

The Administrative Assistant will gain hands on experience in every aspect of running a theatre company


Maintain the website, execute marketing plans, write PSA’s and Radio Ads, be responsible for front of house, box office and ticketing, volunteer scheduling, outreach, social media presence, dissemination of information, theatre rentals, and web-site promotions.


The ideal candidate will possess a strong aptitude for social media, strong verbal and written communication, a desire to work in publicity or marketing for events or the not-for-profit sector and has a knowledge of theatre. A post-secondary education with a focus on business administration would be an asset. Consideration will be given to high school students with an aptitude for strong organizational and computer skills and a keen creative eye. Other qualifications include:

o Strong Computer Skills (Excel)
o Valid Driver’s Licence
o Strong Written and Verbal Communication Skills
o Be willing to live in a remote community for an extended period of time
o This is a CSJ position. All candidates must be able to legally work in Canada, be between the ages of 15 & 30; enrolled in school full time and intending to return to school in the fall.
