The North Vancouver Recreation & Culture Commission was established in 1971 as a partnership between the City of North Vancouver and the District of North Vancouver and we are proud to have served one of Canada's most active and healthy communities for more than 45 years.
Our mission is to build healthy individuals, families and communities and we know that recreation and culture are vital to the overall health, wellness and creativity of our community. That's why we provide and facilitate quality municipal recreation and culture programs, services and events that enhance the quality of life for all North Vancouver residents.
We operate 10 Community Recreation Centres, the North Vancouver Tennis Centre and the North Shore’s largest performing arts theatre - Centennial Theatre. We also manage room and venue bookings for facilities, fields, and outdoor spaces across North Vancouver.
We promote creativity, celebrate diversity and contribute to North Vancouver’s unique sense of place through the provision of cultural services that include: a comprehensive Arts & Culture Grants program; cultural planning resources; and a public art program.
North Vancouver Recreation and Culture is looking for a Guitar Instructor for children, youths and adults at John Braithwaite Community Centre.
Lessons are offered Tuesdays from 6:00pm-9:00pm. Lesson series are 6-8 weeks long and are offered September through June.
Conduct group music lessons for students aged 8 years to adult. Work in a creative environment utilizing your people, musical and leadership skills. Become an important part of a student's musical development, while instilling the interest and love for music.
• In-depth knowledge of guitar (music theory and curriculum)
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong planning and organizational skills
• Ability to create and implement lesson plans
• Ability to build a rapport with students, parents and staff
• Ability to be flexible in a dynamic environment with different personalities
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Must have previous teaching experience and experience leading and planning successful lessons; completed at least Grade 8 Royal Conservatory Music Accreditation or a Music degree/diploma (or in progress); must enjoy working with children, youths and adults.
All instructors working with children are expected to hold a current First Aid Certificate and obtain High
Five: Principles of Healthy Development training.
All employees should be prepared to work at any North Vancouver Recreation & Culture location. All candidates are required to submit a Police Information Check as a requirement of the position prior to any appointment. Clearance requires the absence of any criminal charges or convictions related to this position.
