Organization Description: 

DOXA Documentary Film Festival, produced by The Documentary Media Society, is a community-oriented arts organization that premieres Canadian and international documentaries to Vancouver audiences during an annual 11-day festival, along with year-round programming.



Job Description: 

We are seeking a dynamic individual who is interested in working in a busy, energetic, film-loving environment to fill the position of Outreach and Audience Services Assistant. All applicants must have excellent computer (preferably Mac) and Internet skills and the ability to work independently within a team setting. Please note the employment criteria at the bottom of the posting.

Contract: Up to 28 weeks, starting as early as March 11, 2019 until September 20, 2019.


  • Work with the Operations Manager to coordinate the implementation of the DOXA Box
    Office system for the 2019 DOXA Festival.

  • Coordinating ticketing and passes for festival pre festival

  • Assist in DOXA’s Community Box Office on-site locations leading up to the festival.

  • Manage the festival box office during the festival and other DOXA screenings and events.

  • Assist DOXA staff to develop, implement and report on audience surveys and feedback.

  • Provide sales and support by phone, email, and in-person with patrons inquiring about box
    office needs.

  • Work with DOXA Staff to research and implement outreach strategies for DOXA
    screenings and events.

  • Assist in general office duties, as required, including answering phones and organizing mailouts.

  • Report on box office statistics.

  • Assist with outreach and distribution as needed


  • Ability to represent DOXA positively with filmmakers, sponsors, partners, audience members, and the broader community.

  • Previous box office or audience service experience an asset.

  • Excellent communication, community development, and people skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.

  • Time management skills, with the ability to organize, set priorities, and meet deadlines.

  • Interpersonal skills in building positive relationships with people at all levels.

  • Familiarity with the film industry and festival operations an asset.

Candidates are only eligible if they are currently unemployed and have a current EI claim; OR have had an
established EI claim within the past 36 months; OR have been paid special EI benefits (i.e., maternity/parental) in the past 60 months and are returning to work for the first time since that benefit began. All applicants have to be registered with a Work BC office.
