The Federation of Canadian Artists is a registered charity founded in 1941 by professional artists working at a national level. Today, with a membership of over 2,800 artists, we exist to support and promote emerging and established visual artists. We do this through the provision of exhibition, educational and networking opportunities. In addition, we also strive to make arts and culture more relevant and accessible to Canadians everywhere.


Job Description: 

This opportunity is a chance for you to combine a passion for art with your customer service and sales skills. Based in the vibrant arts community on Granville Island, the Federation of Canadian Artists is looking for an outgoing, personable and motivated Gallery Sales Associate to join our team at the Federation Gallery.

Candidates must be comfortable engaging with customers to provide information about the featured artists, artwork, and the Federation. The ideal candidate has a high E.Q. and an assertive personality. A combination of tact and service-focused professionalism is key.


The Sales Associate is a first point of contact for the gallery and an advocate for the Federation. As such, they must have a professional demeanour and appearance and an energetic and social personality. Desirable applicants will be personable, outgoing and feel comfortable working with a wide variety of people. In addition applicants are expected to be well organized, reliable, and flexible.

The primary role of a Sales Associate is to assist customers in choosing art that fits well with their current collections or help them in choosing gifts for clients, business partners or friends and family. In addition to sales you’ll serve as first contact with our member artists, help with gallery events and exhibition installation and take-down. As a key member of a small team you will also assist a team of professionals in various tasks that support other departments. 

Further duties will include helping clients and members over the phone and by email, ensuring the gallery stays clean and organized and helping with special events and fundraisers.

The Gallery Sales Associate will look to implement new and improve upon existing sales practices and strategies. During quiet times the Gallery Sales Associate will be proactive in promoting the gallery, exhibitions and member artists across digital and print platforms.


An effective Gallery Sales Associate is an excellent listener who can ascertain a customer’s needs and advise them accordingly. Knowledge in and a passion for art is an asset, prior experience with a commercial gallery would serve you well in this role.

MS Office Suite experience is required. Social media experience as well as Adobe Creative Suite is an asset. Fluency in English is required, and a second language is an asset.
