From its start in 2004 with 40 singers to the mighty sounds of present day, the 90 voice Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir has a vision to connect gospel music, with all its passion and power, with music lovers from the Metro Vancouver region and beyond. Well into its second decade of singing great gospel music - from classics to contemporary to influences of Soul Music and R&B, Good Noise has established itself as a must-see and must-hear choir. Repeatedly voted #1 favourite Choral/Opera group in the Vancouver Courier “Stars of Vancouver” Reader’s Choice awards, it is the powerful connection with its audiences that sets Good Noise apart.


Job Description: 

The choir administrator is responsible for the broad coordination of the day-to-day administrative needs of the organization, supporting both artistic, office (virtual) and board activities. In addition, the administrative position includes grant-writing and PR/Media experience. The administrator works closely with the President and Artistic Director and reports to the Board of Directors. The choir administrator must be available evenings and weekends in support of administrative duties at concerts and choir events (e.g. weekend retreat). This is an independent contractor position with a workload that varies throughout the year. As the choir does not maintain an office space, the administrator will be required to work from their home office.

Contract Terms: This is a one-year contract position with an initial three-month probationary period. Upon satisfactory completion of the probationary period, the one-year contract becomes renewable yearly thereafter at the discretion of the Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir Board of Directors. The length of contract may be re-visited in future in consideration of an ongoing contract status.


1. Administrative

  • managing choir membership/email lists and choir registration, workshop registration, season ticket lists, donor contact lists

  • tracking donations/sponsors, ensuring donor reminders and recognition

  • coordinating and planning choir retreats and retreat events

  • volunteer coordination – maintain list of volunteers, assist Front of House manager in organizing volunteers for concerts and manage volunteer recognition thank-you gifts

  • preparing material related to board meetings, committees and AGM

  • establishing and managing paper and electronic filing systems

  • maintain ticket sales records, preparing spreadsheets with demographic information

  • prepare required reports, e.g. SOCAN

  • maintain archive of concert posters/programs/print materials

  • coordinates and assists with fundraising activities in collaboration with fundraising committee and board of directors

  • pick up mail from choir’s mailbox regularly and process mail

  • additional duties as needed/assigned

2. Grant writing

  • research grant options relating to project and operating grants and maintain database of grant opportunities, grants submitted, grants received and relevant timelines

  • prepare applications and reports of grants, with input from artistic director and members of the Board of Directors; draft grant proposals for board approval and write final reports

3. Concert and Event Promotion, Marketing, PR/Media

  • Write and submit press releases

  • Update online calendars

  • Build relationships with various media organizations to increase the profile and awareness of the choir and support continued audience development

4. Concert Production 

  • Assist with concert, rehearsal and back stage needs – attend rehearsals as needed

  • Assist with guest artist, musicians and rtistic director needs

  • Assist with coordinating concert set-up, take-down, rental bookings/returns

  • Additional duties as needed

5. Organizational Involvement

  • work with and support choir’s bookkeeper, providing report information/invoicing/invoices as needed to ensure timely financial reporting and invoice payments 

  • attend Board Meetings, rehearsals, concerts and weekend retreat as needed

  • maintaining ongoing communication with Artistic Director and Board executive

  • regularly meet with Artistic Director and Board executive to plan and implement tasks


The ideal candidate has arts related education and is experienced in the not-for-profit sector, particularly in the arts and possesses: 

  • commitment to the vision and mission of Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir

  • high degree of professionalism, self-motivation, communication and organizational skills

  • excellent planning, administrative, multi-tasking and problem-solving skills, detail oriented

  • strong writing/editing skills in English and ability to maintain clear communication

  • ability to work under pressure of deadlines

  • excellent computer skills working with Word, Excel, email platforms and additional software/technologies as needed

  • ability to work and interact in a positive and professional manner with volunteers, artistic staff, board members, choir members and audience members

  • have a vehicle or access to one when needed

  • grant research, grant-writing and reporting follow-up 

  • PR/Media promotion experience including writing press releases, contact with print/TV/Radio media

  • event management
