The vision of the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre is to provide the highest quality performing arts to audiences. Since 1978, the Centre has been the premiere entertainment venue in Cowichan welcoming thousands of visitors, patrons, performers and artists to the exceptional 731-seat proscenium arch theatre. It serves the region as a community theatre for local groups, as a roadhouse for touring professional artists, and as a conference and convention facility. With outstanding programming offering music, theatre, comedy, dance and film, we bring local, national and internationally renowned performers to the largest stage on Vancouver Island.

Job Description: 

Typical Job Duties Include:

  • Responsible for the production of posters, advertisements, handbills, news releases, email blasts, social media and other promotional and advertising materials for the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre; work with graphic designers and printing houses on marketing materials and annual brochures;

  • Maintain an adequate inventory of promotional materials and disseminate promotional/advertising materials to the public and the digital/print media in a timely manner; attend performances to take photographs and do social media posts to be used for promotional and archival purposes;

  • Provide regular maintenance to content elements of the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre website and digital TV’s as required;

  • Make periodic updates, and coordinate the marketing for the Division’s regional arts website, social media and all related promotional campaigns;

  • Responsible for regular promotion of theatre shows on several social media sites and production of social media advertising campaigns;

  • Work in conjunction with the manager on securing and maintaining media sponsorships;

  • Conduct advertising campaigns for each event or show, including ticket giveaways’ and contesting. Monitor to ensure accurate execution of campaigns and adherence to event/show budgets

  • Prepare marketing surveys and reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing ticket sales data and maintaining up to date research databases;

Responsibilities: 

The Cowichan Performing Arts Centre – Arts & Culture Division is seeking a regular full time Theatre Marketing Specialist. Reporting to the Manager, Arts & Culture Division, the Theatre Marketing Specialist is responsible for the planning, organization and operation of general and specific advertising and marketing campaigns for the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre’s annual presenting season and events.

Qualifications: 

A Bachelor of Arts or a diploma from a community college in marketing, publicity or related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience are required. A certificate in graphic design or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. A minimum of two years’ related experience in marketing and promotion with a minimum of two years’ experience working with web designers and graphic designers. Personal experience in graphic design and/or art direction. Experience in working at a theatre or arts organization. Experience in preparing and negotiating sponsorships packages. Personal experience in web design is considered an asset. Applicants must have knowledge of and interest in the arts and theatre operations and demonstrated working knowledge of computer hardware and software related to marketing, including, but not limited to word processing and desktop publishing, i.e. Adobe Pagemaker, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, PDF files, FTP Site Management, Mail Chimp, Word Press. To be successful you must have extensive knowledge of graphic design and brochure layout and of the latest practices and trends in social media. You must have also knowledge of the latest practices and trends in web design. Knowledge of local communities is considered an asset. You must also have the ability to: plan, organize, execute and evaluate effective advertising campaigns; work independently and to manage projects and deadlines effectively; work with the printing house to produce visually effective marketing materials; engage in effective interpersonal communication (verbal and written), with the media, Cowichan Performing Art Centre’s user groups, staff, management, and the general public; and vary the workweek to meet operational requirements and work at performances. Effective media relations skills and excellent editing and writing skills are essential.
