The Arts Club Theatre Company is Canada’s largest not-for-profit urban theatre company. Now in its 56th season, the Arts Club offers professional live theatre at three venues, as well as on tour throughout the province.


Job Description: 

Reporting to the Publications and Communications Manager, the Communications Associate is responsible for managing strategic media relations in accordance with the immediate and long-range goals of the company. The Communications Associate implements creative, measurable communications campaigns to garner media coverage for marketing, fund development, and artistic initiatives. The successful candidate is a tenacious self-starter, polished writer, and thoughtful team player who thrives on the exchange of ideas.

This is a permanent, full-time position with the following hours: Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM, with some show-dependent evening hours.


  • Serving as the key media representative for the company, establish and maintain effective relationships with local and national personnel (reviewers, writers, editors, broadcast journalists)

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and contractors to coordinate creative pre-production and production photography, and to manage videography for show trailers and interviews

  • Write, copyedit, and proofread marketing collateral

  • Research, write, and distribute media releases

  • Craft engaging story pitches to media outlets and deliver dedicated follow-up

  • Coordinate interviews with media and escort artists, as necessary

  • Provide content for multiple social media channels

  • Track media coverage and update internal stakeholders

  • Coordinate public relations events, as necessary

  • Attend opening night events


  • University degree in English, communications, marketing, public relations, or related field

  • 1–3 years professional experience in marketing and communications, or related field, an asset

  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively in writing and verbally with artists, vendors, contractors, and internal stakeholders

  • Exceptional writing, copyediting, and proofreading skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; working knowledge of Creative Suite is an asset

  • Knowledge of union regulations (CAEA, ACTRA, VMA) is an asset

  • A valid driver’s license (with a clean driving record) is an asset
