The Kutenai Art Therapy Institute is a unique arts-oriented, community-based organization dedicated to the belief that the creative process is healing and life-enhancing, and that the expressive arts can contribute therapeutically to both individual and community health. We train culturally sensitive and responsive art therapists and provide art therapy as a community service. KATI has been successfully graduating art therapists from its two-year post-baccalaureate diploma program for 24 years.
Our ideal Executive Director will have a passionate commitment to KATI’s mission and values, excellent interpersonal and leadership skills, business and fund-raising experience, and the ability to generate new and diverse income streams. They will value collaboration and transparency, an inclusive approach, and respect for diversity. They will be an advocate for, and actively pursue the goals of decolonization, Indigenization and reconciliation.
In partnership with all KATI’s stakeholders, the Executive Director will help unfold our long-term vision, building on a strong culture of excellence in teaching, research and community engagement.
We are looking for someone who is who is seeking an opportunity to be of service in leading KATI through its next stage of growth. This is a part-time contract position averaging 25 hours per week. The new Executive Director will begin at KATI in October 2019.

To implement the vision, mission and strategic plan KATI as directed by Board of Directors.
To liaise with the Board and bring to the Board's attention opportunities for new initiatives and programs, fundraising, sponsorship and grant opportunities and to oversee the implementation of these initiatives once approved by the Board.
Maintain existing and develop new sources of operational and program funding and support the Board’s initiatives for sponsorship and donations.
Implement and update the Institute’s five-year business plan, which incorporates goals and objectives supporting KATI’s strategic direction.
Review existing policies on an annual basis and recommend changes to the Board as appropriate.
Manage and provide guidance and support for staff, faculty and contracted employees. Review and update staff contracts & evaluations; and faculty contracts & evaluations with the Academic Dean.
Prepare and refine the annual budget and provide regular Board updates. Ensure the financial well-being of the Institute and its programs.
Administer the funds and approve expenditures of the organization according to the approved budget, reporting to the Board as required.
Initiate research, develop and implement new projects that contribute to KATI’s mission.
Market the Diploma program, and work with other organizations to achieve graduate accreditation of the Institute.
Proactively build and support appropriate and innovative programming relationships with other organizations in the community.
Actively liaise with the community and ensure compliance with provincial and federal agencies.
Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
Sensitivity and understanding for art therapy in the Canadian context
Management experience – the ability to work harmoniously with all KATI’s stakeholders
Financial acumen and experience in the nonprofit sector
An ability to generate new & diverse income streams
An effective marketer
Knowledge of & experience in fundraising
An ability to listen well and a sense of humour
Proficiency in MS Office
