BC Alliance for Arts + Culture
Sep. 23, 2019
The BC Alliance for Arts + Culture is a nonprofit provincial organization that works to advocate, inform, connect and serve BC's Creative Community. Our members include organizations, professional associations, not-for-profit groups, artists, and cultural workers throughout British Columbia.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY DESCRIPTION:
The BC Alliance for Arts + Culture seeks volunteers to assist in a variety of roles at our two-day annual conference, Weaving Wellness: Empowering Creativity, Nourishing Artistic Practice. The event takes place from September 30-October 1, 2019 at the Roundhouse Community Centre in Vancouver, on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. The event runs from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day.
About the conference:
Research proves that arts and culture are integral to our health and well-being. But what does it mean to be well? How does creativity inform our physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual well-being? How does our welfare intersect with our responsibility to the planet? Join us to investigate these questions at Weaving Wellness: Empowering Creativity, Nourishing Artistic Practice, presented in partnership with the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre. This two-day conference, curated by theatre artist Lisa Cooke Ravensbergen with special attention to Indigenous protocols and cultural practices, will guide participants through a reflexive process of doing, listening and sharing. By embracing diverse perspectives and new ideas and ways, attendees will arrive at a holistic understanding of the connections between art, creativity, health and well-being.
Volunteers will arrive at the Roundhouse Community Centre at 7:45 a.m., and may be responsible for various tasks during the conference, including:
serving delegates as hosts, messengers, runners;
staffing membership and registration tables;
assisting in the catering set-up and strike for snacks and lunches;
assisting facilitators and panelists during their sessions;
assisting delegates at outdoor activities;
and other tasks as required by the volunteer coordinator.
Volunteers will receive a catered lunch and the opportunity to experience portions of the conference programming.
Volunteers will need to attend one orientation meeting prior to the event.
Applicants should have an interest in BC arts and culture, and/or the theme of this year’s conference. Volunteers must be available for at least one full day of the conference.
Previous volunteer/work experience with events, non-profits, and/or the arts is a bonus, but not mandatory!
