Research proves that arts and culture are integral to our health and well-being. But what does it mean to be well? How does creativity inform our physical, intellectual, emotional and spiritual well-being? How does our welfare intersect with our responsibility to the planet? Join us to investigate these questions at Weaving Wellness: Empowering Creativity, Nourishing Artistic Practice, presented in partnership with the Vancouver Park Board and the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre. This two-day conference, curated by theatre artist Lisa Cooke Ravensbergen with special attention to Indigenous protocols and cultural practices, will guide participants through a reflexive process of doing, listening and sharing. By embracing diverse perspectives and new ideas and ways, attendees will arrive at a holistic understanding of the connections between art, creativity, health and well-being.
Weaving Wellness takes place September 30-October 1 at the Roundhouse in Vancouver, on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations. Registration is available at Eventbrite with discounted rates for students/seniors and BC Alliance members.
A crucial component of wellness is access. That's why we're committed to reducing barriers to our conference, Weaving Wellness, so that anyone can attend. Here are some of the ways we're working to make Weaving Wellness accessible to all members of the community.
Programming at Weaving Wellness will be presented with ASL interpretation, and on-site childcare will be available. We're also happy to cater to any dietary restrictions you may have. Please indicate upon registration any requirements you may have. The Roundhouse is a wheelchair-accessible venue. Email firstname.lastname@example.org for specific information about the physical space.
For those with financial barriers to attendance, we're offering a Pay What You Decide registration option (available at email@example.com), as well as the option to attend as a Listener. Listeners will attend free of cost and, as the title suggests, will hold space as active listeners. They will also respond with reciprocal action by offering a record of the conversations they listen to. If you're interested in learning more about this option, or attending as a Listener, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you have any questions, please contact us at email@example.com or 604-681-3535. Keep your eyes peeled for more information on speakers, artists and programming in the days to come. We look forward to seeing you at Weaving Wellness!
