Every week, the BC Alliance gives you a glimpse at several must-see member events. Here’s a look at what’s coming up in the near future:
Pride at MOA: From a Riot to a Revolution
The Museum of Anthropology examines the roots of Pride (unfolding this weekend in Vancouver), from Stonewall to the present day. Join in for a trio of documentaries (including the locally produced Yellow Peril: Queer Destiny), a group discussion and a vogue workshop and ball!
(Vancouver: August 3)
B.C. Day at MOV
And, while you’re recovering from Pride, hit up the Museum of Vancouver on August 5 — it’s $5 admission all day long. Check out exhibitions including Haida Now and Wild Things: The Power of Nature in our Lives.
(Vancouver: August 5)
Free Thursday at Two Rivers Gallery
Speaking of cheap museum admission: Prince George’s Two Rivers Gallery costs zero dollars and zero cents every Thursday, so come see what’s on display, including featured exhibition REDRESS: Sacred Obligation - Indigenous Voices on Reconciliation. (Update: for the duration of this exhibition, admission will be by donation. Admission is always free to those who self-identify as Indigenous.)
(Prince George: August 1)
Harmony Arts Festival
Film, art, literature and more come together in Harmony for West Van’s Harmony Arts Festival. Celebrate a harmonious balance of visual, culinary, literary and performing arts on the spectacular West Vancouver waterfront.
(West Vancouver: August 2-11)
12th Annual Grand Prix Plein Air Challenge
In the Ferry Building Gallery’s traditional competition, artists must create a piece of original art outdoors "en plein air". Works will be judged and prizes donated by Opus Art Supplies will be awarded. Register to participate or simply watch the master works unfold under the West Van sunshine.
