Diane Loomer, C.M., recipient of the Order of Canada, founder and director of Chor Leoni Men's Choir, co-founder and conductor emerita of Elektra Women's Choir and founder and conductor of EnChor Chamber Choir, died in hospital in Vancouver on Monday, December 10 at the age of 72.

On December 30, 2012, His Excellency the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada announced 91 new appointments to the Order of Canada. The new appointees include two Companions (CC), 33 Officers (OC) and 56 Members (CM). These appointments were made on the recommendation of the Advisory Council for the Order of Canada.
VANCOUVER, BC - Robert Frank’s historic photograph Parade, Hoboken, New Jersey (1955) is part of a major group of artworks donated recently to the Vancouver Art Gallery. Other new acquisitions include more than one hundred photographs by Canadian artist Charles Gagnon, a significant collection of works by Myfanwy Macleod, and a number of other artworks.

One of Canada's most celebrated and treasured conductors and an ambassador for the classical arts, Diane leaves a great legacy to Vancouver's artistic community.
David Y.H. Lui was one of the most accomplished members of the 1962 Graduating Class at Kitsilano High School. While at Kits, David played in the school orchestra and both acted in and directed school plays.
To honour David's memory, the Class of 1962 has donated funds to establish an award in his name at Kitsilano High School. Each year, the graduating senior who shows the most promise in any of the performing arts will receive a cheque of at least $500 and have his or her name engraved on the plaque that will hang in a place of honour in the school.
Jeni LeGon, Hollywood’s onetime “Chocolate Princess” and the first African-American woman to sign a major studio contract (MGM - Hooray for Love), died Friday, December 7 in Vancouver, where she had made her home for the past four decades.
Born in Chicago in 1916, as a child she studied dance at 'Mary Bruce's School of Dancing' and by age sixteen was performing in vaudeville chorus lines with the Whitman Sisters, as well as doing the social dances of the day like the Lindy hop and 'flash acts'.
The Cineworks Independent Filmmakers Society is an organization which has been dedicated to supporting independent film production in Vancouver for more than 30 years. As a registered charity, Cineworks is familiar with the challenges facing non-profits today in this economic and funding climate, and as a result is developing a program that aims to support both non-profits in the city as well as indie film producers.
