Winners Announced for Richmond’s Fifth Annual Arts Awards

The six winners of the annual Richmond Arts Awards were announced at a ceremony last night (May 8) at Richmond City Hall Council Chambers.

Established to recognize the achievements and contributions to the arts by Richmond residents, artists, educators, organizers and business leaders, the Richmond Arts Awards are presented by Canadian Western Bank. They are administered by the City of Richmond, in partnership with the Richmond Arts Coalition, and are sponsored by Tempest Development Group, the Richmond News and Peller Estates Wines.

The Pride in Art Society (PiA) announced today (May 8) that Canadian Heritage has restored partial funding for this year's Queer Arts Festival (QAF). The society received word in April that Canadian Heritage was withdrawing its funding for the festival.

After 20 years on Main Street, VIVO Media Arts Centre will be searching for a new home. The building that houses the organization has been sold, and VIVO must vacate by May 1, 2014. 

VIVO currently occupies a 6000 square foot warehouse space, and the search is on to find a suitable, affordable location in Mount Pleasant. It is important to the organization to stay central and rooted in this vital art community.

The Vancouver Chamber Choir Advocacy Committee submitted a questionnaire to 137 Metro Vancouver candidates in the provincial election from the BC Conservatives, BC Liberals, BC NDP and Green Party of BC. 

Four questions and one optional question were asked, with a deadline of April 30.
