Vancouver Foundation Appoints New President and CEO

Gord MacDougall, Board Chair of Vancouver Foundation, announced today (July 24) the appointment of Kevin McCort as President and Chief Executive Officer of Vancouver Foundation. McCort replaces the foundation's retiring President Fay Wightman, and will formally assume the role of CEO in mid-September.

A New Museum for North Vancouver

Members of North Vancouver City Council voted unanimously on Monday, July 15 to authorize a new waterfront location for the North Vancouver Museum and Archives and committed to matching each dollar raised to a maximum of $5 million in capital funding.

If the project goes ahead, the museum will be located in the Pipe Shop, a reconstructed shipyard building on the central waterfront in North Vancouver. The new site will nearly double the museum's current space.

The British Columbia Drama Association / Theatre BC ended their Destination Mainstage 2013 festival with the announcement of award winners in a number of categories. 

The gala awards night took place at the Kamloops Convention Centre on July 13, 2013. Awards were adjudicated by actor and director Dean Paul Gibson.

Four Artist Groups Selected for Vancouver Park Board Artist Studio Residencies

Over 20 artists have been selected to participate in the latest round of Vancouver Park Board artist studio residencies.

Four new artist groups will be provided with free studio space in parks and other facilities to develop their work, engage the community and increase participation in the arts. 

As part of the residencies, artist groups will offer community arts-based engagement at Aberthau Mansion and West Point Grey Community Centre, Moberly Park, and Queen Elizabeth Park.

2013 George Woodcock Lifetime Achievement Award Winner

On June 25, 2013 Vancouver-born poet, editor, critic, and children's author William Herbert New was presented with the 20th recipient of the George Woodcock Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding literary career in British Columbia. 

New has written and edited more than 50 books, including the Encyclopedia of Literature in Canada. In 1966 he became assistant editor of Canadian Literature, working with George Woodcock and Donald Stephens. He subsequently edited the review publication from 1977 to 1995.

Chinese-Canadian choreographer Wen Wei Wang, artistic director of Vancouver dance company Wen Wei Dance, has been voted one of 2013's Top 25 Canadian Immigrants via an annual people’s choice award sponsored by RBC Royal Bank and Canadian Immigrant magazine. The award recognizes the significant contributions of Canadians born outside this country who now call it home.
