Nominations Open for Nanaimo's 2017 Culture and Heritage Awards

Each year, the City of Nanaimo's Culture & Heritage Commission recognizes the best of its community's culture and heritage with the Culture and Heritage Awards. The public is invited to nominate organizations or individuals in the following award categories:

Excellence in Culture Award, presented to an organization or individual that has achieved regional and/or national recognition in the field of arts. The nominee must be recognized as a Nanaimo artist, having demonstrated excellence in their field, and as being a significant inspiration to others.

Honour in Culture Award, presented to an individual, group or corporation that is known for their dedication and support of the development of the cultural fabric of Nanaimo.

Emerging Cultural Leader Award, recognizing up-and-coming, Nanaimo-based cultural leaders. The award targets individuals under 30 years of age who have contributed significantly to the cultural life in Nanaimo.

John Thomson Heritage Memorial Awards, honouring individuals who demonstrate outstanding heritage service and dedication to the community.

Award nominations are reviewed by the Nanaimo Culture & Heritage Commission, with recommendations being made to City Council.
