City of Vancouver to Host Open House On Proposed Cultural Amenity Space

The City of Vancouver has received an application to rezone 1290 Hornby Street from Downtown (DD) District to Comprehensive Development (CD-1) District to allow for a 35-storey residential tower to include an ~11,000 square foot cultural amenity space.

Cultural Services anticipates issuing a call for Expressions of Interest to operate the cultural amenity space from eligible arts and culture mandated non-profit societies, non-profit co-operatives, charitable organizations, or Musqueam, Squamish or Tsleil-Waututh Band Councils or Urban Indigenous non-profit organizations.

The development proposal includes:

  • 978 square metres (10,531 square feet) of cultural amenity space on the ground and second level, to be owned by the City of Vancouver and used as an artist production/presentation space

  • Car and bike parking associated with the cultural amenity

Illustrations and information about the development and the amenity space will be available for feedback and comment. The applicant team and City of Vancouver staff will be available to answer questions.

An open house will take place March 14 for members of the public to provide feedback. You can also provide comments on this rezoning application and the cultural amenity space using the online feedback form.

After a full review of the rezoning application, ensuring that it meets applicable policies, and consideration of all comments from the public and civic committees, staff will make a recommendation to Vancouver City Council. Council will then hold a public hearing to decide on the application. Council approval is required for the project to move forward.
