Carousel Theatre for Young People empowers young people and families through playful, imaginative, and accessible theatre experiences that develop emotional literacy. We are a gathering place for young people, families and artists to embark on a journey where boundless imagination, a dash of magic and an abundance of play are the recipe for a magical theatrical adventure that has lasting impact. We have been creating theatre for young people since our inception in 1976. Located on Granville Island in the heart of Vancouver, CTYP is Vancouver’s mainstage TYA company.

Job Description:

The Summer Associate Instructor/Coordinator assists in the planning, building and facilitation of Carousel Theatre’s summer drama camps! The person in this position will work closely with the Education Coordinator and the Summer Camp Instructor team throughout July and August with camp students ranging in age from 4 to 13!

Responsibilities:

Camp preparations, including but not limited to:
- Organizing documentation & supplies, registration info, and class lists
- Attending pre-camp team meetings
- Helping to prepare and maintain the studios for camps and programs
- Supporting the Education Coordinator for the preparation of Summer Camps
Assisting with daily operations of the Summer Camp including but not limited to:
- Checking-in and welcoming students and parents
- Supporting the Lead Instructor with classroom management
- Assisting with daily camp activities, such as prop building, technical assistance, and running drama exercises
- Supporting end of the week performances
- Ensuring health and safety protocols are followed by drama school students
- Organizing and maintaining costumes, props, and studio spaces as they pertain to drama camps
- Other duties related to drama camps as required and mutually agreed upon with their supervisor

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate…
- Is an organized and motivated individual, potentially with or working towards a drama degree and/or a career in the arts, who enjoys (or is excited by) working creatively with young people.
- Has strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Equivalent experience is also considered, including various creative backgrounds or volunteer work.
- The ideal candidate is a team player and knows how to have fun and be silly in a responsible way, and can model this behaviour for others.
- A multi-tasker and problem-solver with the ability to prioritize assignments in a fast-paced environment.
- Some experience with the creative use/construction of props, costumes and sets would be an asset.

Applicants must meet the following Canada Summer Jobs requirements and be:
(a) between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
(b) a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and
(c) legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.

Successful applicants will be required to pass a Criminal Record Check, paid for by Carousel Theatre, per our Child Safety Policy.

Remuneration:

$19/hr with 35 hrs per week. Dates: June 24th - August 16th, 2024 (8 weeks) OR Dates: July 2nd - August 23rd, 2024 (8 weeks)
