2014 Mayor's Arts Awards: Celebrate Your Volunteers, Board Members, Donors, and Sponsors

The City of Vancouver Mayor’s Arts Awards recognize established and emerging artists in a wide array of disciplines that make up our creative sector – from literary to culinary and visual to performing arts, as well as five unique awards for contributions to our community.

Honourees in the ten artistic categories are chosen by a jury of peers, usually consisting of the three previous years’ recipients, for having made a significant contribution to their respective disciplines, achieving or contributing to artistic excellence, and for showing leadership and support for Vancouver’s cultural community over the course of their careers. Each arts category Honouree selects an Emerging Artist in their discipline who represents the promise of the next generation.

Honourees for Business Support, Philanthropy, and Volunteerism are chosen by juries consisting of business and cultural community members active in those fields.

Honourees in the Arts Board Member of the Year and Lifetime Achievement categories are selected by the Board of Directors of the Society to Bridge Arts & Community.

The selection in each category is made from nominations submitted by individual jurors and solicited from the community at large through an online nominations process.

We'd like to encourage arts administrators to take special note of the latter categories honouring the contributions made by volunteers, board members, donors and sponsors.

Nominating someone from your team of workers and supporters for a Mayor's Arts Award for Volunteerism, Business Support, Philanthropy, or Arts Board Member of the Year is an excellent way to celebrate their participation in your organization's creative endeavours, to demonstrate your appreciation, and to add to the sense of teamwork that your work thrives on.

We encourage you to share this information with others in your organization, including your board chair and members, and help to identify potential candidates in one or more of these categories.

Please note that two nominating parties are required for each nomination submitted.

Further details and the online nomination form can be found here. The nominations deadline is Friday, May 9 (extended) May 16, so don't delay!
