The Board of Directors of Western Canada Theatre has announced that James MacDonald will be assuming the role of Artistic Director at the Theatre.

Among his other accomplishments, MacDonald has been involved in the development of over 30 new Canadian plays, including directing the world premieres of Miss Shakespeare (Musical TheatreWorks – Jessie Award for Outstanding Production), Vimy (Citadel Theatre – Sterling Award for Outstanding Production), With a Twist (Lunchbox Theatre – Betty Mitchell Award for Outstanding Production), and The Myth of Summer (Alberta Theatre Projects). He also served as dramaturge for the Firehall Arts Centre production of Chelsea Hotel, which has toured across Canada for the past three years.

According to outgoing Artistic Director Daryl Cloran, "James is a great fit for WCT. He’s a smart, visionary director, and a really great guy. I have no doubt that WCT audiences will love James and that he will lead the company into a very exciting next phase of growth.”

For his own part, MacDonald says, “Theatre is about community – who we are, where we’ve been, and where we are going.  There are so many wonderful stories we can share together, and I am so excited to have the opportunity to live and work in [Kamloops].  I am also proud to carry on the legacy of my predecessors, and to work with the incredible staff, Board, volunteers, Patrons, and artists of Western Canada Theatre in building a terrific future for the organization."
