REVOLUTION Programming Update: Brenda Leadlay on "Leading the Way on Arts Advocacy"

Over the weeks leading up to the Alliance's 2017 annual conference, REVOLUTION: Engaging Human Creativity, we'll be sharing some of the exciting programming and engaging speakers conference attendees have to look forward to at The Annex and VSO School of Music's Pyatt Hall in Vancouver on Thursday, June 8.

Today we spotlight Alliance executive director Brenda Leadlay, who will facilitate a workshop entitled "Leading the Way on Arts Advocacy."

This workshop will give you the confidence to become an effective arts advocate in your community. We will examine what it means to be an artist, the importance of inclusivity and the need for a deeper understanding of creativity and the role it plays in the formation of our identity. Participants will learn how to develop their own advocacy “elevator pitch” and work with decision makers to keep them informed about the value of arts, culture and heritage in their own lives and in the lives of their constituents.

Brenda Leadlay is the executive director of the BC Alliance for Arts + Culture. Brenda has been working in the arts for over 30 years as a creator, producer, presenter, educator and arts activist. Previously, she served as founder of the Chutzpah! Festival, artistic director of Presentation House Theatre, and artistic director of Magnetic North Theatre Festival.
