Interested in being part of a new creative hub? A 6,000 square foot community amenity space will be provided at the former RCMP detachment site at 350 Doyle Avenue in Kelowna. The space will be owned by the City of Kelowna and delivered by the developer as a ‘shell'.

The City is interested in the potential of the space as a creative hub, which could house two to four creative organizations.

Creative hubs are an innovative way for professional artists, arts organizations and creative enterprises to develop and operate spaces to meet their specific needs. Through co-location, creators achieve more secure tenure and share spaces where they can house their operations, develop new work, welcome audiences and connect with the broader community.

BC Artscape, an experienced consultant, will work with local creators to explore the feasibility of a creative hub at 350 Doyle Avenue. The feasibility work is expected to take approximately 12 months and will include:

  • Establishing a vision for a creative hub;

  • Identifying possible operating models;

  • Identifying how the space can be designed to meet the needs of its residents; and

  • Proposing a development model which calculates the costs of the build-out and identifies possible funding sources.

The City has issued a Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEOI) to gauge the degree of interest in the community for this feasibility project. Responses through the City’s online portal are requested by November 29, 2019.

If a creative hub opportunity might be a fit for your professional arts career and you have time to work with the City’s consultant for the next year, please send us a simple letter addressing the response content as described in the RFEOI. No detailed proposals or qualifications are required in the RFEOI. Based on the degree of expressed interest, City staff will determine appropriate next steps.
