BC's Restart: What's New for Arts + Culture?

On May 25, Dr. Bonnie Henry announced BC’s Restart, a four-stage BC reopening plan, with the goal of lifting virtually all restrictions for September. You can find more information here.

In this round-up, we’ve tried to include the information that we hope will be most value to those in the arts, culture, heritage and non-profit sectors, with the understanding that more information will doubtless emerge, and that all dates are subject to the increase of vaccinations, and steady decline of COVID-19, in our communities.

Beginning May 25:

  • outdoor personal gatherings up to 10 people are permitted, as well as;

  • indoor personal gatherings with up to five people or one household;

  • indoor seated organized gatherings with up to 10 people;

  • outdoor seated organized gatherings with up to 50 people.

Travel will still be zone-based, with non-essential travel between zones prohibited.

New rules are scheduled to phase in on June 15 and July 1, though as stated, these are earliest possible estimates and rely on the persistent eradication of COVID. Step 2 in June opens the possibility for province-wide travel, increased capacity for indoor events (such as plays, film screenings, etc.) and outdoor fairs and festivals with safety plans in place.

The province hopes to have “normal social contact” established by September 7, with Dr. Henry specifically mentioning large events such as concerts.
