Dialogues Project Seeks Event Producer

‘Dialogues between First Nations, Urban Aboriginal and Immigrant Communities in Vancouver’ (the Vancouver Dialogues Project) is seeking expressions of interest from Event Producers who are interested in planning and coordinating the Project’s closing celebration event.

The Association of Book Publishers of BC and the Office of Vancouver's Poet Laureate Brad Cran recently announced the reemergence of ten classic Vancouver books to be republished as part of the Vancouver 125 celebrations.

BC’s publishers in partnership with the City of Vancouver, which has provided a subsidy to help bring these lost gems back into print, will reissue 4 non-fiction, 4 fiction and 2 poetry titles to celebrate Vancouver’s 125th anniversary.

Art Strike Called For May 1

An open planning session is being called by the M1 Art Strike Coalition as they begin organizing an action to “transform our lives”.

Arts Community Responds To PavCo's Accusations

"The artists may have turned on the lights, but nobody likes what they see," said Alliance for Arts and Culture executive director Amir Ali Alibhai in response to PavCo chairman David Podmore's accusation that arts organizations are behind the public opposition to the Edgwater Casino expansion.

"Mr. Podmore tells us that we are uninformed," said Mr. Alibhai, "but it is he and his business associates who have kept us uniniformed, and now they are resorting to damning us with unsubstantiated inuendos."

Thoughts On The Budget

As expected, the budget presented by the provincial government on Tuesday, held to a “stand pat” strategy. 

We were disappointed to see that yet again the recommendations of the Standing Committee on Finance were not followed.  Given the current political and economic climates, however, we have not been surprised. 

A small degree of freedom and flexibility have been provided for the next Premier of British Columbia.
