The Indigenous Arts Knowledge Exchange (IAKE, formerly known as the Indigenous Trainers Caucus) was created in 2019-2020, with the objective to enhance the Canada Arts Training Fund’s responsiveness in relation to the needs of Indigenous arts training organizations. Currently operating as part of a 3-year pilot project (2022-2025) IAKE is also examining and determining the measures best suited to increase the application, retention, and graduation rates of Indigenous training programs across Canada. IAKE is an Indigenous-run and led not-for-profit organization responding to training limitations for Indigenous artists, promoting resilience through flexible, values-based learning in diverse settings. We work within the guiding principles of the 5 R’s: Respect, Responsibility, Relevance, Relationality and Reciprocity, to fulfill a future vision where Indigenous artists thrive within self-determined arts spaces that celebrate Indigenous systems of knowledge, practice, and protocol.

IAKE (Indigenous Arts Knowledge Exchange) is searching for an experienced Programming Director to help us address the specific needs of Indigenous artists by developing innovative Indigenous led models of learning and sharing, encompassing governance, metrics, and program design. As a front-line connection with Indigenous artists, community/sectoral leaders, and cultural/arts venues, the IAKE Program Director will develop and track various arts programming initiatives, including one-on-one mentoring, virtual platforms, land-based learning, and in-person programming, as well as being responsible for some administration duties incorporating basic financial management and data collection. This role is provided direction from a Council of Indigenous Artists Peers, including Advisory Committees, and works along side the Administrative Director and Communications Coordinator. Your creative and keen thinking talents and methods will be critical in driving our programs and holding healthy spaces for all clients, partners, Council and Advisory members, and work colleagues. Candidates for this position should be rooted in Indigenous values and can demonstrate or verbalize this effectively in conversation. You should also have a minimum of 4 years practical experience in Indigenous arts. The candidate should be creative and imaginative, have a strong understanding of program development/delivery, and be comfortable communicating to all ages and lived-experience levels. This position also requires a very flexible and open individual, able to respond to a quickpaced sector environment. Those who identify as Indigenous are most encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
Role and Responsibilities
• Consult with Indigenous arts organizations, knowledge keepers, Indigenous artists and Elders in developing Indigenous arts exchange programming.
• Liaise with Indigenous mentors, teachers, workshop leaders who offer knowledge exchange; identify opportunities and facilitators for learning sessions.
• Create seasonal programs to be offered in both urban and rural Indigenous communities.
• Prepare a grid schedule with all offerings for the season/year.
• Create a timeline specific to pilot project activities.
• Develop an evaluative framework for Indigenous metrics that will be used for analysis and reporting.
• Collaborate with team members, consultants and IAKE Council members on community consultations framework and plan.
• In collaboration with the Administrative Director, assume the role of public spokesperson for IAKE.
• Coordinate with the Administrative Director all travel and contracts for arts knowledge exchange programs.
• Ensure that programming and budgetary objectives are met.
• Provide regular feedback to IAKE Council on ongoing programming and future planning.
Qualifications:
• Lives a philosophy based in Indigenous ways of knowing and being.
• A bachelor’s degree, college diploma or lived experiences in the performing arts, visual arts, arts administration, and/or Indigenous education, with a speciality in the arts.
• Land-based teaching/learning experiences.
• Exceptionally well-organized with a strong focus on the details.
• Excellent communicator and confident team player.
• Extreme self-discipline in completing projects on time and to specifications.
• Cooperates with humility.
• Creative, innovative, and exceedingly flexible.

Remuneration:
$40/hr. for a 35-hour work week, 1-year contract with the potential for extension based on funding.
