Founded in 1969, the Vancouver Academy of Music (VAM) is a non-profit institution that has been spreading a love of learning and musical excellence for generations of aspiring musicians. Minutes away from downtown in a traffic-calmed location, VAM is housed in a spacious facility with teaching studios, large classrooms, a library, two performance halls, and the inspiring scenic backdrop of Vanier Park.

In addition to private lessons and class instruction, VAM students engage with world-renowned visiting artists in masterclasses, exchange with national and international partners, and participate in numerous performance and competition opportunities. VAM’s fundamental purpose is to explore the transformative power of music through fostering an inclusive learning environment led by a team of devoted faculty with strong professional backgrounds.

Job Description:

Reporting to the Vice President & COO, the Facilities Coordinator is a part-time (20 hours per week) position responsible for the operational support needed to conduct VAM’s programs and events in a safe and clean environment. Critical components of this position include the maintenance of HVAC, security, custodial services, and IT systems in the VAM building. While the ideal working schedule is Monday-Friday, 8:00am-12:00pm, the finalized working schedule is negotiable depending on the candidate’s needs and availability.

Responsibilities:

-Oversee the ongoing maintenance and smooth operation of vital building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and technological infrastructure, liaising with contractors when needed
-Ensure adequate safety and cleanliness in the building, including directing and managing contracted custodial staff
-Serve as the main point of contact for faculty and administrative staff to address emergent facility needs
-Organize facility upgrades and renovations
-Offer facility-related support for special projects and programs
-Liaise with the City of Vancouver for building support needs
-Ensure setup needs are met for rentals, events, and programs

Qualifications:

-Three to five years of progressive experience managing facilities
-Strong communication and interpersonal skills
-Ability to work independently
-Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize a variety of tasks
-Ability to execute basic building maintenance and repair
-Willingness and ability to commute reliably to the VAM facilities
-Knowledge of or enthusiasm for the arts is an asset
