BC Artists and Educators Among New Order of Canada Appointments

Governor General David Johnston announced on December 30 90 new appointments to the Order of Canada, one of the country's highest civilian honours. The new appointees include 4 Companions (C.C.), 25 Officers (O.C.) and 61 Members (C.M.).

The Leon and Thea Koerner Foundation provides funding to stimulate and invigorate non-profit organizations in the cultural and creative arts and the social services who serve communities throughout British Columbia. Vancouver Public Library Named Top City Library in the World

Scholars at Heinrich Heine University in Dusseldorf have named the public libraries in Vancouver and Montreal as the no. 1 libraries in world cities – topping a lengthy list that includes libraries in New York, Boston, London, Barcelona, Los Angeles, and Toronto.

Public libraries in 31 cities across the world were studied by researchers to determine how they support the digital, learning, and creative fabric of their cities.

Info Sessions on BC Arts Council Grants for Youth & Early Arts Career Initiatives

Earlier this month, two new BC Arts Council programs were announced, focused on supporting the development of artists and arts administrators across the province and on supporting opportunities for youth engagement in the arts.

Help Save the Hollywood Theatre

Built in 1936, the iconic art deco Hollywood Theatre has been having a rough few years. Sold to Bonnis Properties in 2011, it sat empty for about a year before being leased to the Point Grey Community Church in 2012. Now their lease is up, and Bonnis Properties has decided to turn the facility into a fitness centre. These plans involve adding a second floor, and it's unclear how much of the original facade would be kept.
