Boca Del Lupo Announces Space Residency Program

Boca del Lupo has announced a call for submissions for their Space Residency Program, which provides successful applicants with up to two weeks of free performance and rehearsal space on Granville Island in Vancouver.

The following information is excerpted from the call issued by Boca del Lupo, which can be found here. This opportunity is not administered by the BC Alliance for Arts + Culture.

Space Residency Program

Boca del Lupo invites artists and companies to apply for their Space Residency Program, which provides free space and mentorship support for the creation and development of new artistic work. Emerging and established artists are welcome to apply, and we encourage applicants from a variety of artistic disciplines (theatre, dance, music, performance art, visual art) as long as there is a performance component to the proposed work.

Work should explore, but is not limited to, Micro Performance, which is an emerging global trend proliferating in many forms, from theatre and dance to new media, live art and interactive technology. Micro Performance prizes depth of experience above all, asking the audience, which is rarely more than 20 or 30 at a time, to immerse themselves in a world of the artist’s creation. Space residencies often represent the first step in being programmed into Boca del Lupo’s Micro Performance Series, for example The Chop’s Through The Gaze Of A Navel began in a residency, then was programmed as part of MPS, and has since toured to Crow’s Theatre in Toronto, Magnetic North Theatre Festival and High Performance Rodeo.

The Space Residency Program provides successful applicants with a week or two of free space at The Anderson Street Space on Granville Island, limited support from our technical and production staff, and feedback opportunities from Boca del Lupo’s Artistic Director Sherry J. Yoon.

Applications and Deadline

Interested artists and companies should provide the following:
• Contact name, email address and phone number
• Bios of all artists involved in the residency
• Company bio (if applicable)
• 1-page proposal describing the work to be explored during residency and the eventual goal of the residency

Applications should be sent to andrea@bocadellupo.com, no later than 4:00pm on March 1, 2017.

Successful applicants will be contacted directly by the Boca del Lupo team, with further questions about the project so that the residency can be customized to the company or artists’ needs.
