Yours, Mine, and Ours: Who Owns Public Art?

HCMA Architecture + Design (400-675 West Hastings St., Vancouver)

Artwork created specifically for public spaces is inherently accessible, often encouraging viewers to interact and engage with the work and blurring boundaries of ownership. Glass artist Victoria Balva with Calgary-based collaborative artists Caitlind r.c. Brown and Wayne Garrett take part in a moderated conversation about the complexities of copyright in relation to public art and architecture. What is the role of the artist, the architect, the public in relation to public art? Who is the owner? Moderated by HCMA partner Melissa Higgs.

This is a free event but seating is limited.  Please click here to register today!

Public Art Copyright Workshop

Bring your lunch and join Incandescent Cloud (Caitlind r.c. Brown and Wayne Garrett) in a closer look at the ins and outs of public art contracts with ALO Director Martha Rans. In this short session with practical examples we will unpack what an artist should always look for in a contract and how to handle it when (if?) something goes wrong.
