Apply to Be a BC Culture Days 2022 Ambassador

BC Culture Days is now accepting applications for the 2022 BC Culture Days Ambassador Program. Up to ten successful applicants from across the province will receive artist fees and a production budget totalling $2,000 to present an activity as part of "Earth Endeavours," an ambassador series of interactive, community-engaged projects to be showcased during Culture Days. They will also participate in a 3-6 month mentorship with an established artist starting in May, and act as a Culture Days media spokesperson.

Notes the organization, “It is our priority to engage artists from underserved communities, such as, Racialized and/or People of colour, Deaf, Disability, Mad, and  2SLGBTQQIA+ artists. Given the provincial scope of our work, we also aim to prioritize regional artists and organizations in rural or remote areas.

Starting in July, a creative challenge will be presented by a different ambassador each week inviting the public to engage in an activity exploring our relationship with the earth and each other. Each project or challenge will reflect upon topics such as Truth and Reconciliation, climate change, and post-pandemic recovery. The activities require a “call-to-action” or “ask” of the community. Ambassadors will be responsible for engaging the community in a collaborative project and gathering participant responses, which will be shared on BC Culture Days platforms (e.g CultureDays.ca "Earth Endeavours" webpage and social media channels) and during Culture Days celebrations from September 23 to October 16.

Ambassadors will present their projects in partnership with one or more community organizations (eg. municipal cultural office, arts council, arts-based or cultural organization) in their region. Community partners will support the ambassador through in-kind support, such as facilitation of activity venues and communications. Throughout the summer, ambassadors will record videos, capturing the creative process, interviews with community members, and project planning. This in-progress video documentation will be shared via social media and the Culture Days blog page leading up to the launch of Culture Days. The completed ambassador-led community projects will be documented by video and presented as a series on our website during Culture Days celebrations.
