The Founders of the Elinore & Lou Siminovitch Prize in Theatre have called for nominations from the theatre community for Canada’s top lighting, sound, costume and set designers.
The deadline for nominations for the Siminovitch Prize, which will be presented this year to a professional theatre designer who advances Canadian theatre through a body of work achieved in recent years, while influencing and inspiring younger theatre artists is Friday, June 8, 2012. A short list will be disclosed in September, and the recipient and their protégé will be announced at the ceremony in November.
“We are looking forward to receiving nominations for Canada’s most talented and influential theatre designers,” said Dr. John Evans, Siminovitch Prize Founder. “This year’s award will recognize the brilliant men and women of Canadian theatre whose achievements contribute immensely to the experience of theatregoing.”
Completed nominations must be submitted no later than 5:00 p.m. EST on Friday, June 8, 2012.
This year also marks the final year for the Siminovitch Prize. “The Founders are proud of what the Prize has achieved and are pleased to have played a role in honouring the significant contributions made by Elinore and Lou Siminovitch to Canadian society, in a way that would reflect their mutual life-long love for the arts and, in particular the theatre,” said Joseph Rotman, Chair of the Canada Council and one of the Founders of the Siminovitch Prize
