Tsawwassen Art Teacher Receives Mentor of the Arts Award

Each year, the Tsawwassen Sun Festival Society recognizes a community member representing a specific discipline of the arts for their contribution and leadership. The 2012 award recipient is Tsawwassen art teacher, Alii Wright.

Ms. Wright has taught a specialized art program at Boundary Bay Montessori House for 21 years, and is also a painter, currently the feature artist at the Upstart Crow Arts & Crafts in Ladner.

Federal Government Invests in Heritage Preservation in Richmond

An investment from the Government of Canada will allow the history of the former village of Steveston—now part of the city of Richmond—to be preserved for generations to come. This was announced on July 19 by the Honourable Alice Wong, Minister of State (Seniors) and Member of Parliament (Richmond), on behalf of the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.

New Faces at Presentation House Theatre

There are some new faces at Presentation House Theatre in North Vancouver. Last fall, Kim Selody left his position as a Theatre Officer with the Canada Council to become Artistic Director of Presentation House Theatre. He has now made some dramatic changes to his staff.

Participants can drop in at any time between 9 am and noon.

Participants will be asked to identify and map cultural assets in the West End and explain their significance. For this session a wider and inclusive definition of culture is sought, which would include businesses, organizations, and programming that goes beyond the dominant definition of culture.

Vancouver Chamber Choir Appoints New Pacifica Singers Conductor

The Vancouver Chamber Choir and Artistic Director Jon Washburn are pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin Zakresky as the new conductor of Pacifica Singers. This is the fourth season for Pacifica Singers, an associate vocal ensemble of the Vancouver Chamber Choir. They perform with the Vancouver Chamber Choir regularly each season and also present one or two independent concerts.
