JOB DESCRIPTION:
The City of Surrey is seeking an Associate Curator for a temporary parental leave position with the Surrey Sports Hall of Fame (SSHOF) at the Museum of Surrey. This role will curate two small SSHOF exhibitions, oversee the implementation and installation of a digital kiosk, and lead public engagement initiatives related to nominations and awareness. The Associate Curator will organize and schedule Board and Committee meetings, ensure nominations are prepared for the 2027 inductee year, and act as lead for the 2027 Induction Ceremony at Surrey City Hall.
Reporting to the Museum Manager, the Associate Curator will collaborate with internal staff, community partners, and sport stakeholders to maintain and advance SSHOF programming. As time permits, the role will also support other curatorial and exhibition initiatives at the Museum of Surrey. This position offers an opportunity to expand expertise in engagement, marketing, and curatorial practice.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work with internal staff and community stakeholders to maintain and promote the Surrey Sports Hall of Fame
Develop terms of reference for a new SSHOF Advisory Committee and serve as staff liaison
Oversee projects to ensure an accessible and engaging web presence
Manage projects within start-up and annual operating budgets
Coordinate with City of Surrey staff and community partners
Plan and coordinate displays in select civic facilities
Write and present reports to City Council, committees, and other audiences
Build and maintain relationships with community sports stakeholders
Organize and facilitate stakeholder meetings
Develop and implement plans for the 2027 Inductee Ceremony and related SSHOF events
Support Collections staff with sports artifact and document acquisition planning
Liaise with marketing and communications staff to develop promotional campaigns for SSHOF
Support additional special exhibitions and initiatives at the Museum of Surrey
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a recognized university or college program with three years of progressively responsible experience, including supervision, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Education in a related discipline such as museum studies, project management, human geography, or sport management
Website technical experience or strong applicable knowledge
Exhibit curation and design experience
Strong facilitation skills
Highly developed written communication and report-writing abilities
Strong oral communication and public relations skills
General knowledge of financial management, audit, and control functions
Knowledge of best practices and trends for Sports Halls of Fame or similar institutions is an asset
General knowledge of museology practices is an asset
