JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Alliance has just completed a process of member and sector engagement aimed at ensuring its next leader best fits the current needs and priorities of its members. From across our sector, the feedback has been clear that the Alliance requires a dynamic leader who can bring people together to help create real change for artists and arts organizations in our province. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in advocacy, policy, and research; a deep knowledge of BC’s arts sector; and an ability to actively cultivate positive working relationships with both the Alliance’s members and the broader network of Arts Service Organizations across the province.

The Alliance is well-positioned for growth that is responsive to the sector’s challenges. In its next chapter, the organization is poised to support organizations and individuals across the province as we raise our voices together for a stronger, more unified arts sector.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Executive Director provides strategic and operational leadership focused on delivering exceptional value, services, and impact for members, while overseeing governance, financial sustainability, programs, advocacy, partnerships, communications, staff leadership, risk management, and organizational development to advance the organization’s mandate and strengthen the sector. This includes:

  • Advancing arts advocacy across the province through relationship-building, research gathering and distribution, education, coordination, and facilitation.

  • Serving the Alliance membership by creating programming and services that meet members’ ongoing needs, including professional development and training, networking and collaboration opportunities, job and volunteer postings, and accessible group benefits.

  • Coordinating and partnering closely with the province’s network of Arts Service Organizations (ASOs).

  • Managing day-to-day office operations, including oversight of low-rent studio and workshop space for artists and organizations, and leading a small but high-performing team.

  • Continuing to grow and diversify revenue streams, fostering ongoing relationships with funders, donors, and partners, and identifying suitable funding opportunities as appropriate.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience, preferably in arts, culture, and heritage.

  • Strong financial management skills, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and oversight, combined with a solid understanding of business development principles, revenue generation, partnership development, and long-term organizational sustainability.

  • Deep knowledge of BC’s arts, culture, and heritage landscape.

  • Experience successfully working with a Board of Directors.

  • Proven track record in relationship-building.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to serve as a compelling spokesperson.

  • Experience leading a small and dynamic team.

  • Commitment to Reconciliation and equity, diversity, and inclusion.

HOW TO APPLY:

This search is being supported by consultant Kayleigh Harrison, who is currently serving as Interim Executive Director.
