JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are currently seeking an empathetic and personable individual with strong organizational skills to manage and facilitate our long-standing Rhythm & Word Music Therapy program, working directly with students in grades 9 to 12 at Mountainside Secondary School. The Music Therapist will report to the Executive Director of North Van Arts and work closely with Mountainside Secondary faculty on delivery of the program. The therapist is responsible for managing all aspects of music therapy, including preparation and delivery of both individual and group sessions with students.
Please note that this position is a contract term for maternity leave coverage.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and run individual and group programming to meet the needs of the youth participants
Engage with youth and support their collaboration process through all aspects of music
Provide individual and group sessions on a weekly basis
Provide documentation of progress to school personnel and to North Van Arts on an ongoing basis
Meet regularly with school personnel regarding student and program progress
Maintain an inventory of instruments and supplies
Provide professional liability insurance
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Music Therapy
Registered with the Music Therapy Association of BC
Undergraduate degree in Music or Education (an asset)
Experience working with at-risk youth and in a school setting
Strong guitar, drumming, piano, and vocal skills
Experience using music technology (GarageBand, sound mixing, etc.)
Up-to-date criminal record check (required)
Professional liability insurance (required)

REMUNERATION:
Contract Fee: Preparation/Training – $26.50/hour | Teaching – $52.50/hour
