ABOUT THE ROLE
The REB Coordinator provides administrative support to the Emily Carr University Research Ethics Board (ECU-REB) by organizing and administering ethics applications made by researchers who are working with human subjects. The REB Coordinator provides information and workshops to faculty regarding internal and external policy on ethical standards of research involving human subjects and provides general administrative support to the Research services area.

Responsibilities:

1. Supports the Research Ethics Board by coordinating meetings, drafting agendas and minutes, and providing the necessary information for the Board Members to make informed decisions regarding applications. Supports external community members in accessing the resources (including access to records and honoraria) as required.
2. Maintains ECU-REB member files.
3. Coordinates and delivers the orientation program for incoming ECU-REB members.
4. Advises faculty, graduate supervisors, graduate, and undergraduate students on their research ethics applications. Reviews applications and provides preliminary feedback to applicants.
5. Provides guidance to the Emily Carr community on Tri-Council policy and Emily Carr’s research ethics policies and procedures (ECU-REB Standard Operating Procedures).
6. Follows national standards and best practices at other Canadian institutions to inform research policies and procedures at Emily Carr, as required. (Overall policy direction, drafting, proposed policy language and decision-making rests with the Research Grants Facilitator and Ethics Officer, the University Secretary, and AVP Research.)
7. Maintains research ethics application files. Updates and tracks research ethics records as required.
8. Communicates recommendations from the Research Ethics Board to applicants, assists in making the required changes and communicates revisions from applicants to Research Ethics Board.
9. Updates the Research Ethics Board website and other information documents.
10. Conducts information sessions on the role and function of the Research Ethics Board to faculty and students as required.
11. Conducts Research Ethics Board application workshops for faculty and students as required.
12. Liaises as required with other Research Ethics Boards in BC through the Provincial Research Ethics Platform (PREP), and in Canada though membership with Canadian Association of REBs (CAREB/ACER).
13. Makes recommendations to the supervisor for changes to practice, procedures, and policy.
14. Provides general administrative support and facilitates special projects for the AVP Research + Dean of Graduate Studies on an as needed basis.
15. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in an art and design related field.
• Minimum three years' direct experience with a focus on administrative support of research in an academic context.
• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Thorough knowledge of the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research involving Humans (TCPS2, 2022).
• Familiarity with the Tri-Agency: Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR Framework), and other Tri-Agency guidance documents is an asset.
• Highly developed organizational skills and the ability to work independently, multi- task, and set priorities.
• Highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to exercise sensitivity to relate professionally and effectively to industry representatives and other outside contacts as well as students, staff, and faculty.
• Excellent judgment and discretion.
• Ability to gather information from various sources, analyze and report results.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 environment, Adobe Pro, and Wordpress.
• Ability to exercise sound and independent judgment, tact, and diplomacy.

Remuneration:

$36,450 to $39,006 per annum
