Job Description:
We seek a highly enthusiastic educator/director with experience in acting and music direction or choir direction to guide our intermediate aged students as they move into the move advanced level of our programs. Some of these students have been at The Stage for many years and are looking to include performing arts in their post secondary education and career plans.
In this role you will:
- Inspire your 11-14 year old students each week with challenging curriculum that enhances their music, singing and performance abilities.
- Teach harmony and part singing in preparation for StageFest 2027
- Select a musical theatre show with the Director and prepare your class of 18 students for a fully realized production in June of 2027 as well as, possibly, other performances in the year.
- Plan material with the Director (songs and/or scenes) from musical theatre repertoire for each student or group of students
- Plan and execute weekly rehearsal schedules to ensure your show is well rehearsed and students are prepared.
- Assist the director with blocking scenes for the sake of keeping rehearsal progress on track
- Contribute to a passionate team of educators via monthly production meetings
- Contribute to the development of our Intermediate Musical Theatre program by making recommendations as well as taking feedback to ensure the program's excellent reputation and success.
- Be present for all dress rehearsals, tech rehearsals and shows at our June production
SCHEDULE Wednesdays & Thursdays | 5:00-8:00 | September - June | Lorne Street Studio in New Westminster
- Additional rehearsals scheduled at convenience of director and/or music director to ensure that students are well prepared for the production

Responsibilities:
- teach safe and effective vocal warm-ups/exercises
- teach and conduct 2- and 3-part harmony
- teach strong vocal techniques safely with changing voices, particularly male voices going through puberty
- teach basic music theory, singing on pitch, and vocal expression/storytelling
- select and teach a portion of a song for Panels week that highlights every singer's vocal
-ability and performance potential
- play and record all separated harmony lines on piano for at-home practice
- understand which female voices can safely sing male vocal parts in show music, and which male voices can safely sing young boy or dropped male vocal parts in show music transpose notes and offer note alternatives to singers needing to adjust parts due to vocal range
- music direction for a 75-minute show
Qualifications:
- Experience working with students ages 11-14 years
- Experience with instruct/direct students ages 11-14 years in music, vocal development, vocal warm ups, part singing and acting.
- Experience music directing/directing students in a production and/or choir leading experience
- A willingness to contribute to our studio culture and encourage its success and reputation reliable transportation to and from the studio
- An up to date Vulnerable Sector Check or be willing to obtain one
- CPR Level C certification or willing to obtain one
- experience with Google Drive an asset though training can be provided

$7500-$9500 annually (depending on experience) divided over 10 months
