Massey Theatre Society is a not-for-profit organization established in 1983 which operates a large arts facility housing the 1,260 seat Massey Theatre and called Eighth & Eight Creative Spaces) as well as operating the 360 seat Anvil Theatre. We offer an array of performances and community activities. Facilities also include a 69 seat black box, 150 seat concert space, dance, media and rehearsal studios, shops and galleries, concessions and catering. Our goals include to create sustainable access and inclusion for all, with additional supports available for BIPOC, LGBTQ2+ and other underserved or historically excluded.
The 90,000 square foot main facility is nearing completion of major renewal, renovation and specialization projects and will be advancing its mission to provide dynamic and diverse entertainment, performances and program expansion.

Job Description:
The Front of House Supervisor is a paid casual position that is the on-site lead for all Front of House operations during events. They are responsible for supervising ushers, concession and box office team They ensure guest safety and comfort, and act as the primary point of contact for emergency procedures. This role requires sound judgment, strong leadership, and the ability to keep an event running smoothly, safely and on schedule.
Activity is seasonal from October through June with a varying volume of events. Staff are expected to accept a minimum of four shifts per month when offered them to maintain an active status.

Responsibilities:
Supervisor Related Duties
• Manage, direct and support ushers, ticketing, and concession staff throughout each shift.
• Debrief ushers, concession, and other Front of House personnel before and after each event, addressing any issues and gathering feedback.
• Set a professional example for the team in conduct, dress, and communication.
Emergency & Safety Procedures
• Serve as the designated point of reference for emergency procedures during events.
• Implement the venue's safety plan as required and lead staff response in an emergency.
• Report any incidents, safety concerns, or irregularities to the Audience Services Supervisor promptly.
• Act as First Aid Attendant on calls. (Basic First Aid)
Event Related Duties
• Ensure events run on time, safely, and to the standard expected by the Theatre.
• Set up and reset of lobby and public areas, including signage, seating, and equipment.
• Troubleshoot and resolve operational issues as they arise during a shift.
Considerations
• Staff are required to stay standing during their shift and be able to lift at least twenty-five pounds.
• Staff must uphold professional standards in communication, dress, and conduct.
• Strong knowledge of theatre or event safety and operation procedures is required.
• Staff should bring flexibility to necessary schedule changes, staying longer if events or performances end later than anticipated; end times are not always predictable.
• Food Safe, Serving It Right and First Aid certificates are an asset.
Qualifications:
• Prior experience in front-of-house, hospitality or supervisory role, excellent communication and people skills, and the ability to remain calm, decisive and organized under pressure, including during emergencies.
• Comfortable giving direction to staff, resolving patron issues, and liaising confidently with Managers, event organizers, and promoters.

Remuneration:
Compensation and Scheduling: Wages will be $24.50/hr. The casual positions will receive payment of 4% in lieu of benefits and vacation.
